Dozen Fish, Two Hours On The Fly
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
On board this Memorial Day Weekend, I had Lt. Col. Richard “The Machine” Comstock for Fly or Die striped bass.
Today, was a quick trip on the bay to fish some early morning schools on the fly. We found them and got into some nice schools on the feed. They were a little finicky on a slightly selective feed, but we were able to convince them to take our flies. We fished four patterns total: Puglisi baitfish, Baymen Universal, Popper, and White Clouser.
I fly fished along with the Colonel today (Thank You!) and hooked a couple nice bass on my Baymen Universal and a topwater popper. I fished several TFO rods including the Axiom II, the Axiom II X, the LK Legacy, and the Clouser rod. All performed exceptionally well with the nod going to the Axiom II and the Lk Legacy as my two favorites today.
At one point, I saw a BIG BASS flipping big baits into the air multiple times. I made a solid cast right into the boil with my Baymen Universal fly… WHAM! Spit. WHAM! Spit again. Chase down…. Bye-bye Captain…That fine fish was easily in the mid-thirties. I am fishing all crimped barbs on my flies and I enjoy the thrill of the challenge of hooking and keeping hooked my fish. Very, very exciting way to fish. You should give it a try!
Total catch and release today twelve fish on the fly. A great couple of hours on the bay with a great man.
