Fishing Has Tanked For The Moment…
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
Striped bass fishing in our three bays has tanked for moment… No bait coming inside = no birds, no bass. We are also in the beginnings of our first major heat wave of summer and water temps are going to rise quickly. Great for swimmers!
A couple scenarios I will throw out to you: 1) Word is Boston Harbor is still good. 2) “Rhode Island” is still good with birds/bait/bass. Check with Saltwater Edge for fishing reports/updates. 3) We have zero bait/birds/bass INSIDE the bay at the moment. That will eventually change if Peanut Bunker show up, if adult Menhaden show up, if Silversides show up. Also, bass could show in our bay again if we have cold waters outside coming into the bay on the rising tides and bringing the bait and bass with them.
All this said, I can look at my journals and read reports of tons of bass in our bay in mid-June, July, August in the hot summers of the past. So, everything is really bait dependent. Striped Bass Fishing 101: find the bait, find the bass.
On the upside, FLUKE should be on fire in this heat. Blues? They should appear but again they need [ Fill In The Blank ]. Great beach weather, a lovely start to the summer season. Hold your breath. The bass will return…
