13 Fish On LT
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
On board today, two of my regulars, Chris & Molly DeVillers for light tackle striped bass. Winds SW light, water 57 degrees, air 70’s by mid-morning. Near the top of the tide.
Found a small handful of Lone Wolfs chasing herring (?) or some other large, skinny, white baitfish about 6″ inches long. High Flyers showed us the way, but far fewer fish today than over the past two days. I get the feeling that this spot is going to dry up soon. But time will tell. The bay, bait and bass change constantly with weather and time of year…
Chris & Molly are crazy good anglers and they worked hard all morning non-stop. They were rewarded with some nice fish to 15 pounds. Total fish landed and released was 13. All over slots with two slots 28-30″ inches.
We checked a few other spots around the bay and even out to Gurnet and there were no other fish inside the bay and no birds. We did find a couple schools of bait (budder fish?) and marked a couple dense clouds of bait but there were no striped bass on them. We also marked some type of fish rubbing their bellies on the bottom. Chris said maybe Tog and I think he may be right.
The weather was great, lots of seals and buoys :o) at Gurnet. A few giant hooded seals out front. The fish we caught and released were all on topwater poppers/spooks and they were all very fat slab sided fish! So much fun on light tackle and some great fights and runs. A good day.
