Pre-Season RECON Charters!
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
For the past 32 years I have been offering “short money” early Pre-Season RECON charters for striped bass on our bay. This year, RECON charters kick off Monday, APRIL 21. I will be running 3 hour RECON charters on the bay in the search of the first striped bass of the season to get a feel for how the Spring Migration is going. Unlike my regular season charters, I FISH WITH YOU on RECON charters.
Be forewarned, RECON trips don’t guarantee finding or catching any striped bass. Sometimes we catch nothing. Other times we get a few fish. As my official start of Striped Bass Charter Season approaches mid-May or so, we begin to get into some good schools of bass and as you know, we average 15 fish per trip or better. That is regular season. Pre-Season RECON is a roll of the dice.
So, if you are looking to shake off the winter, get your casting back into shape, and have the chance for hooking into your first striped bass of the season, shoot me an e-mail to book a Pre-Season RECON charter. All trips are first come, first served and run 3 hours. I prefer a solo angler for these trips for fly fishing. For light tackle, two anglers max.
Couple Tips: Pre-season fish are typically sub-surface, holding deep. Water temps are still quite cold in the low 50’s. For Fly Fishermen, make sure you have both intermediate and fast sink lines of 6″ inches per second, i.e. 300-400 grain full sinking lines. For Light Tackle, sinking lures of 1-3 feet per second. I provide all tackle, flies and lures for all my charters, but many experienced anglers like to bring and use their own gear as they have it dialed in to exacting specs. Dress for winter conditions on RECON trips. It is usually cold.
