HAPPY SEPTEMBER
Greetings & HAPPY SEPTEMBER from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
Tomorrow, Sunday, marks the first day of September as the Fall Run really starts to kick in.
As you may know, I was down and out with Covid this past week. My third time with this nasty sickness since COVID-19. This strain is not nearly as bad or life threatening, but it does have different levels. Many friends that have got it said it was just like cold. Then others, like me, got the worst case of it and it pretty much takes you down for 5-7 days. Thank God it is behind me and now it is full stream ahead into the September fishing!
September is booked solid with charters, and most if not the entire season of 2025 season is also booked solid. I am currently booking seasons 2026, 2027 and 2028 now. Thanks to everyone for you continued loyal support and bookings. I love guiding you all.
Last week we got into two different worm hatches. As you know, when striped bass get a taste of a worm hatch, hundreds of bass go completely selective and will take almost nothing except the tiny worms swarming over the mud flats. My last trip before I got Covid, we worked very hard to land 14 fish and most of them in the first half of the morning when the striped bass have not yet switched over to worms. But the second half – hundreds of bass all on worms and they ignored a the fly box offerings and the light tackle offerings. It will drive you crazy but boy is it exciting to be in the middle of it all…
Sharks are still here. Inside and outside our bay. I got second hand info that is old news by now, but a Great White grabbed a seal last week off the front beach and chopped it in half. It ate one half and the other half washed up on shore. I have seen three Great Whites inside the bay this season so far, all 9 footers or so. I saw a 4th shark in the distance but could not ID it. We have also seen a half-dozen massive explosion on the bay that were huge that may have been BFT, Atlantic Sturgeon, or Great Whites.
Word is there is a lot of bait in the bay currently. Time of year and wind direction and water temps can change everything up in a tide or two. I have a very busy week ahead and will post my daily Baymen Fishing Reports right here at baymenlife.com Check in for the latest news and reports throughout September.
See you on the water and here’s to wishing everyone a great September and Fall Run!
Sincerely,
Capt. David Bitters, BAYMEN, baymenlife.com 31 Years Guiding The Bay. Still In Love.
Soli Deo Gloria!
