NE, Torrential Rains, 16 Fish
Greetings from BAYMEN & Capt. Dave!
On board today, hardcore angler Dick Bowman, USMC, for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, winds NE, overcast, and rain. But we did have a high tide and chop was minimal. We thought about rescheduling and then said, “Nope! We go!”
If you read about yesterday’s epic topwater bite, you can guess where we went first today. But as is always the case, yesterday’s fish and baits were long gone and it was very, very quiet in the area. We worked some of the water and then left and ran down and around the bay for a look around. I glassed the entire three bays – twice! Not a single topwater fish or blitz to be found…
Well, we decided to run back to where we found the fish yesterday and switch up our tactics. Yesterday was all sight fishing. Today, we went to all structure fishing. BINGO! New fish had moved into the structure and were holding tight to bottom. The wind and tide were working together so it was easy to get up wind and uptide and drift down over structure that was so shallow, I had to lift my engine completely out of the water so I did not lose my prop. But the fish were there.
We must of set fifteen drifts and we landed fish on every single drift. Many just under slot and one fine over slot that weighed in at 13lbs on the Boga. An awesome light tackle strtiper in the skinny water just the way we like it. Total catch and release today was 16 fish. 3 on the fly, 13 on light tackle single inline hooks on hardbody poppers and swimmers. But most were on the poppers and the top lure once again was the Finger Mullet by Intent Tackle. That lure is insanely good!
Well, Dick looked down bay and then we both saw it: TORRENTIAL RAINS coming our way!!! You can’t outrun rain, but we tied anyway. It clobbered us. We got soaked to the core. Just the way we like it.
Back at it. STAY POSTED:
