14 Bass, 1 Blue, ENE Winds Continue…
Greetings from Baymen & Capt. Dave!
On board today, regulars, Gary Condon and Greg Powers, for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, a breeze out of the ENE that really picked up mid-morning to about 15 knots steady with 3-4 foot chop. We found some sporadic small schools of fast moving bass inside the bay. Gary landed the first striped bass of the morning at spot #1.
On a whim, we took a look at where I got into a massive Fall Blitz last Friday. Today, that spot was void of fish in spot #2.
We ran up bay and found a nice school of fish working the flats in two feet of water. We worked that school for some time and landed several more bass in Spot #3. The bait was THICK micro peanut bunker spraying out of the water trying to escape the bass. Always exciting to see!
Spot #4 held a nice school of bass down bay. Lots of birds working the fish and the bass were busting topwater but also a nice school hugging bottom. We switched over to Baymen Jigs and landed several fish just short of slot keepers by 1/2″ inch. We also landed one medium blue. All the fish were very fat and eating well.
Onward to spot #5 of the morning and we found breaking fish, again on micro sized peanut bunker spraying out of the water. Very hard to compete with tens of thousands of baitfish, but we managed to hook up on one fish when they came by the boat.
At the end of the trip, we beached the boat and enjoyed an on-board shore lunch provided by Gary. Huge subs with all the fixings, chips, beverages, and for dessert – pastries from Montilios. I could hardly move as I waddled up the boat ramp back to my truck.
Total catch and release today, 14 fish, 1 medium blue, all on light tackle. The ride home across the bay was “sporty” to say the least. We headed straight into a 15 knot NE wind and 4 foot chop and whitecaps. We got pounded pretty good. But we got it done today, and we had a wonderful morning on the water. The DO NOT DISTURB sign has been posted and the Captain is napping comfortably.
Back at it. Stay Posted:

Ugh! Today is Day 11 that the winds have been blowing from the ENE, which is common for September and October. But I sure would love to see a light westerly.
