22 Fish, 4 Keepahs “Fall” Blitz
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN – Fly Fishing & Light Tackle Striped Bass On The Massachusetts Coast!
It has been crazy busy with charters and I am falling behind in my Baymen Reports! But here is today’s report and it is good one. On board today, regulars Gary Condon & Greg Powers who have been fishing with me for many years.
At First Light, West at 10 knots, high tide, slight overcast, and water temps 63 inside the bay. Headed for our first spot of the morning and could not believe my eyes – birds, bait, and bass in a topwater blitz up on the flats! It looked like the start of the Fall Run! But it wasn’t. Just a glimpse of what is to come in a few more weeks…!
We pulled right into the blitz and began to hook up right away. VERY selective feed on tiny baits that we never even saw in the chop. Baymen Bounce was out and “Death Crawl” was in… WHAM! Nice fish on for Gary. A short time later, WHAM! Nice fish on for Greg. This is how it went for the first couple hours of fishing and it was intense. These fish in 4-6 fow were a blast to catch and release on topwater light tackle!
Later in the morning we worked a bunch of my spots around the bay and they were all void of fish, except one. Some nice schools hugging bottom and we dropped jigs on their heads but they had lockjaw and were not interested. Resting? Digesting full stomaches? Or only feeding on crabs? We will never know, but it you have been fishing a long time, you’ve been there. We finally drove away from those fish.
Mid-morning it was Lunch Time with Gary & Greg! Subs, iced waters, chips, and cream puffs from Montilio’s Bakery! We had great food and enjoyed great conversation getting caught up on everybody’s lives. We came back in full and happy and two slot keepers in the cooler. What a great morning that felt more like fall than early August.
Total catch and release today, 22 striped bass, 4 slot keepers. 2 Fish went home with the anglers.
Back at it. STAY POSTED: Two solid months left of Baymen Charters Striped Bass Fishing 2023!
