NE, Cold, Drizzle, & 24 Striped Bass On Fly!
What a morning!
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN. On board today, repeat clients, Scott and Jay, for Fly or Die striped bass!
At first light, cold, dirizzle, and NE. Not my favorite conditions for a morning of fly fishing for striped bass. But my clients said they were rolling the dice and we were going to give it a shot. Boy, are we glad we did!
As the dead low tide turned and came in, several schools of striped bass came in with it chasing bait. I saw one herring getting hammered, that was it. The rest of the bait had to be very small and I never saw it all morning. But the bass did and they would go deep and push the baitfish to the surface and crash through it.
We fished all kind of water today from rips, to flats, to marsh edges, to deep channels. Some of the waters were 3-4 feet deep and some of the waters were 70 feet deep! My clients wroked non-stop all morning and we set a lot of drifts and it all paid off big.
We ended the morning with a 24 striped bass caught and released, all on the fly. 9 wts and 10 wts with intermediate lines. A white King Mullet pattern and a white Blaine Choklett Game Changer pattern. We also had some success with a white bunny striped fly. What a morning!
Back at it. STAY POSTED: We are just getting going.
