3 Fish on Light Tackle
Greetings from Capt. Dave & Baymen Charters!
On board today, repeat clients Nick Howe, Thea, George, and Josephine for light tackle striped bass! After yesterday’s pea soup fog and Easterly wind, today turned bright and clear and sunny with a SW chop.
At first light, we made our way to our first spot of the morning and found our first fish, landed by George. The fish was right where it was suppose to be. A short time later, some MASSIVE big fish came through, smashed bait on topwater in their big, explosive way, and thirty seconds later they were gone – never to show again! Big Fish in a hurry to leave the bay on the dropping tide.
Next up, we motored to a new spot across the bay and Thea landed a striped bass and fought it to the boat. That fish hit a rubber crankbait.
Then, it was Josephine’s turn and she landed a nice bass that hit a Baymen Jig on the bottom – her first ever striped bass! Always exciting to have somebody on board that lands their first one. The morning chill burned off and we continued to search the bay for bait and bass, moving around to many different spots that included cuts, flats, rips, and channel drop-offs.
Total catch and release today was 3 fish on light tackle. Winds made setting drifts tough and it was on the choppy side, There are very few fish inside the bay at the moment. But all in all, it was just gorgeous out there and a fun morning with great conversation and a great crew in search of Marone Saxatilis.
Tight Lines!
