Fish Gone
This morning, Col. Richard Comstock and I hit the bay with fly rods and great expectations. After yesterday’s wall to wall fish inside the bay, today looked very promising. Wrong. All of yesterday’s striped bass (and acres of bait) had left the bay. It was very close to being a ghost town out there with few exceptions.
At first light, there was a small pod of fish rolling on top just like yesterday. But then they went down and we did not see them again. And they would not touch our fly patterns on our only drift we got through them. Not to worry there would be many more opportunities throughout the day.
We fished Kingston, Howlands, Crippled Rocks, Rocky Nook, Cordage, Plymouth channel, Clark’s Island, Duxbury, Browns Bank, Saquish, Gurnet, and then back through the bay one more time, just in case…
Our total catch and release today was three fish, all very small schooled bass taken on fly gear.
I’ve said it my whole life but it never ceases to amaze me: Every Day Is Different And No Two Tides Are The Same. Why did all that bait and all those fish leave on yesterday’s tide?
Back at it. Stay Posted:
