Dozen bass, Big Blues
On board today I had repeat clients, Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson, Matt, and Greg for light tackle stripers and blues.
Beautiful sunrise at first light and flat calm all morning on the water. Cool to start and got hot as they morning went on.
I got a tip from Capt. Soule that blues were at the power plant so we left the dock and went straight there. On arrival it was once again dead. No birds, no bait, no bass, no blues… But we decided to work the perimeter as usual with topwater poppers – and we hooked up four times on monster blues! Everyone landed on big blue and then they were gone.
We ran across to Gurnet point and worked that area but nothing but gray seals around. Back inside the bay, we found a pod of decent bass on topwater under two or three birds. We set a drift and everyone hooked up. We landed fish to about 27 inches and also dropped what looked like a decent keeper by the boat.
Next, we began to work spots around the bay for topwater as the morning got hot. Very few fish inside after that and we ran Duxbury and Kingston pretty thoroughly and a little bit of plymouth water. We hooked up on another small bass and then beach the boat for lunch. Gary & Co. had coolers packed with everything you could imagine for make your own subs! We also had cookied, pastries, coffee, soft drinks… and candy bars! :o) We ate so much we almost couldn’t get the boat back into deep water LOL.
All in all, a lovely morning on the bay. Total catch was about a dozen+ bass released, and four big blues that went home with the anglers.
Stay posted: Fall run starts in about a week…!
