16 Fish, 1 Keeper
On Board today I had repeat client, Molly DeVillers. Molly’s husband, Chris, had to work on a job today, so Molly took the solo trip and invited me to fish with her.
At first light, we were into fall run fish. Topwater action, about a half-acre of fish. They hit our rubber crank baits with gusto! They eventually moved out with the tide and we starteed working around the bay.
Just West of Bug Light we saw a sole gull (operative word for today) tilt its wings and we set a drift. WHAM! Molly hooked into a fat 33″ that took drag on the light tackle. A great fish and a great fight. FAT.
We started to fish the flats at low tide and found a few more fish and picked up singles here and there. At one point, we spooked MONSTER bass off the flats in only a few feet of water. They were so big, we thought they were seals!!! But they were bass and two of them absolute giants that would take nothing! They were gorging themselves on small and medium-sized peanut bunker. The wakes these fish made were awesome…
Back into deeper water, we found a late morning “fall blitz” with bait, birds and bass. It was classic and so awesome to see again. We landed several more fish to 27″ inches. After that, we called it a great morning of fishing and headed for port.
Total catch and release today was 16 fish, less the one keeper that went home in the cooler for a dinner fish for Molly and Chris.
