29 Fish, 1 Keeper
On board today, I had repeat clients Dick Bowman, his son, Drew, and grandchildren Aiden & Ward for light tackle striped bass fishing.
At first light, we were into a classic fall blitz with birds, bait and bass busting on topwater. They slammed our rubber crank baits and caught a bunch. Big schools of peanut bunker were balling up and bass were feeding heavy. But the tide was dropping and bass and bait were exiting the bay in a hurry.
Later in the morning, we caught a small keeper in the EXACT same spot that we caught a keeper in yesterday. Aiden landed today’s keeper after a great fight on LT. That fish hit a Baymen Jig popped off the bottom.
As the morning progresses, fishing slowed and we started to work some structure around the bay without much luck. Nobody home on most of my spots. Then every so often, a mini-blitz would happen somewhere on the bay and we were in the right place at the right time all morning.
In one mini-blitz, the bass had the peanut bunker pinned against the flats and they just destroyed them. Finally, after about 15 minutes, the bunker figured out they better make a run for it to open water and thats what they did. But not before we landed several more bass.
At the end of the morning on our way in, another mini-blitz blew up in front of us and we caught our last bass of the morning. Total catch and release today was 29 fish, with 1 keeper. Almost all fish were landed on rubber canks and a few on Baymen Jigs in the deeper water.
Fall run is underway and it is nice to sight fish again. Back at it. Stay Posted:
