20 Fish
On board today, I had repeat client, Bill Gourley and his grandson, Joey, for light tackle striped bass and blues.
At first light, we found some fish working topwater under a handful of birds. They were small fish, but lots of fun to catch. Then, we began to move all around the bay and found small pods of fish just about everywhere we went. Winds were dead-calm, the tide was incoming, and lots of small fish were coming into the bay.
After catching a bunch of bass, we decided to run to the power plant for blues. I got word from a friend who has a friend who knows somebody…. that slammed the blues there recently. Today, it was void of bait, birds, bass or blues. We worked the perimeter, and then just offshore. We looked for topwater and also cruised with sonar searching the bottom. Three other boats were trolling deep. Nobody hooked up. Back inside the bay, we found a few more small schools of bass but the bite had pretty much shut off.
Water temps today were 74 degrees! Rumors going around of excellent night fishing for bigger fish. I have not had time to go scouting but I am sure the night fish have to be more active the daytime fish given the current hot weather.
All in all, a wonderful morning on flat-calm seas today.
Stay posted: Fall run starts soon…!

FLUKE REPORT – Monday, August 15, 2016
Yesterday, we ran a fluke trip on rumors of six pounders in the bay. We fished 5.5 hours and boated five fluke, three of them keepers to 18 1/2 inches. Another friend fished the same day and boated nine fluke total, two of them small keepers. So, as one top angler told me on the bay, “the fluke are here if you work for them.”
