82 Fish
On board today, I had repeat client, Dick Watson & Company, for LT striped bass. The bay was dead-calm all morning with a very light east wind. The morning bite was lit up with very small fish. We worked a variety of light tackle, hoping to get into some big bass, but they just are not in the bay – yet. Any day, now, we expect to see them…
Best hook-ups were on rubber crank baits and small bucktail jigs with grub. Baymen Bounce was the best technique today. We fished the big poppers with saddle hackles, and also Super Spooks with no luck. No big fish in the bay.
Total catch and release was a whopping 82 striped bass from 10″ inches to 25.5″ inches. All sub-surface. Bait was a two inch long, slender white/silver minnow. Also, some big baits were in the bay, but nothing big enough to bother them.
The bad news: NE winds and rain on the way. My guess is the crazy bite will shut down or slow way down for a few days, at least. Then it should light up again and we should be into some big bass! Macks are out front, but again, nothing big enough to chase them yet…
