60 Fish
On board today, I had second time client, Brenda Chapman from Oklahoma, for light tackle striped bass fishing. Joining Brenda were friends Dick Watson, and Bob.
Winds turned out of the West today and were breezy and gusty. We had a steady chop most of the morning and very fast drifts! We also had rain showers twice throughout the morning.
At first light, we found a couple small schools of bass working on top, under a handful of birds. That lasted for about a half hour and then it was struture fishing the rest of the morning.
Still no big bass in the bay. We landed a lot of stripers – sixty total – but no keepers. Our biggest fish of the morning was a 26.5″ schoolie.
Last evening, I jigged two hours off Gurnet for macks and caught just one! We covered 40ft-80ft, jigged and trolled. Nada. The morning mack bite has been fair.
Back at it. Some big bass should be here soon… The World-Class Spring Blitz action that has been our trademark for years, may be a thing of the past in our bay. In other bays south of us, the fish numbers and sizes have been much higher this May. On the bright side, all these small schoolies we have landed this year will be keepers in two more seasons and we could see a ton of fish in low thirty inches inside.
