100 Fish, 1st Keepah!
On board today, I had repeat Client Fred Stetson, of Vermont, and friends Rick and John, for LT striped bass.
Weather man was calling for NE winds and not too pleasant conditions. However, it was perfect on the bay until 9:00am. We had dead-calm seas, sunshine, and very light west winds. And tons of fish. The bay lit up for the first time this spring. All small fish, but we did land our first keeper of the season (33″ inches). We also had two that were 27 3/4 inches, and one big fish that made a scorching run and straightend out the hook and eventually threw it.
After 9:00am, it was hard to land a fish. My clients worked it today and ended the morning with a whopping One-Hundred (100) striped bass, all on LT! All fish landed were micros to low twenty inches, and some in the mid-twenty inches.
Today was the first really good day of the Spring Blitz like we remember from seaon’s past. Still, very few keeper bass in the bay. With the NE winds now on us, the bite will slow way down or shut down until we get a West or South wind again.
