42 Striped Bass
On board this AM I had long time clients and friends, Gary Condon of Affordable Closet Systems; Kevin Erickson of Erickson Enterprises; Matt “Wompum” Daly, and Adam for light tackle striped bass.
Cold NW winds all morning up and down, then turning east late morning. A few small fish were spread out all around the bay and we picked up striped bass in three of our spots. All the fish were on structure. Almost no birds on the bay and no bait seen. The fish ranged from 10″ inches to two that taped out at 25″ inches. Some big fish will be here soon. Reports of 39″ inch bass in the Canal yesterday, and mobs of bluefish are on the Cape in amazing numbers.
We fished a variety of tackle today, but the majority of our fish were landed on rubber crank baits with the cast and count and Baymen Bounce techique. Also, the currents and winds were very strong and we dead-drifted our tackle and had some great success.
A late start to the 2014 Spring Blitz, but it should just keep getting better and better.
