75 Fish
The days are starting to all run together and I am behind in my Baymen Reports… Tomorrow is the 1st of July and after charter, I am officially on vacation! Where am I going? I am going fishing of course!
Today I had repeat client Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson, Matt Daley, and Greg for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, near calm conditions and a light West wind – and topwater action for about an hour! We have seen very little of that this season, which is not the norm for our bay. The tide was still running in, but as soon as slack hit, we could not find any more fish. All the structure spots were also void of bass. But we had landed and released 27 fish so far…!
We started hitting many of my spots around the bay from Plymouth to Kingston to Duxbury. All void of bass and almost all void of bait. Then, we hit a spot as the tide began to go out and it was fish on every drift! Topwater action, slamming topwater poppers. The hits were awesome and it is always an exciting way to fish! We landed and released 14 more bass.
As we headed to one of my last spots of the day, I began marking fish down deep. Then, some of the fish began chasing bait to the surface. Then the birds showed up and it was Striper Blitz Time! Tons of bass slamming Baymen Jigs down deep and topwater Heddon Knuckleheads on topwater. Crazy, non-stop action! Many boats from around the bay soon joined in and everyone was hooking up! We had multiple four rod hook-ups on my boat and even had a few five rod hook-ups ;o)
We ended the morning with 75 striped bass caught and released. One small keeper went home with us in the cooler that was landed by Kevin Erickson. Winds turned NE late morning and that cooled the bite. But we were on our way in at that point and counting ourselves blessed to be into fish almost all morning on bay!
