39 Fish
On board today, regular, Mr. Dick Bowman for LT striped bass.
At first light, lovely, humid and flat calm bay. Full moon and the last hour of dropping. And tons of fall fish in full migration mode!
Fish were easy to find today as most everything was topwater and some birds around as well. Bass are on the move and coming into our bay, bulking up on bait, and heading right back out again moving south in the migration. Fresh fish should be filtering in and out over the next 4-6 weeks.
No blues today, but one boat reported getting into schools of hickory shad. I saw one shad roll, but that was it. All our fish were schoolie stripers in classic fall blitz mode. An absolute blast just to be there to watch it.
We fished some very shallow water today, 4-12″ inches. It was more like bone fishing down south. We fished topwater as well as sub-surface. We marked some fish in deep water (35 fow) and I bounced a Baymen Jig over them and had one hit. But it was too tempting to not get back into the schools of fall blitz topwater.
We bounced around from school to school and all the fish were almost exactly the same sizes: 18-24 with a few 26. We did see three keepers on the flats and in shallow weed beds. But no luck getting them to take our tackle. The small fish being way more aggressive would fly to the tackle ahead of the bigger fish. Cool to watch!
Total catch and release today 39 striped bass. No keepers but just a lot of fun being in the fall run and hooking up on a ton of fish.
