44 Fish
AUGUST 29th:
On board today I had repeat clients Steve Cannavo, Stephen Cannavo Jr., & their friend, Ed for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, we had flat calm seas and hot, humid temperatures that would climb into the high 90’s by late morning! No better place to be than out on the bay.
Yesterday’s fish were still very active inside the bay, working much of the same areas. The primary bait, a two inch long minnow, was stacked. Clouds of it going by the boat. And the bass were right in the thick of it. Tons of topwater action as we chased the schools in mostly skinny waters. The fish were very finicky and we changed up our tackle a lot to try and draw the strikes. We fished spooks, Rapala single hooks, Sebile minnows, and rubber cranks in 5″, 4″ and 3″ inch. At one time or another throughout the morning, the fish hit all of our tackle.
Towards the end of our trip, we got into the FIRST BLUES OF THE SEASON. They were cocktail blues and we put three of them in the cooler.
Total catch and release today was 44 striped bass to about 26″ inches. The fall run is in full swing. The bay was flat-calm all morning and the fishing was pretty much non-stop the entire morning. An absolute lovely day on the bay on the hottest day of the year!
Back at it. Stay posted:
