25 Fish on Fly & LT
On board today, I had DJ Gene and Julie DuPuis for fly fishing and light tackle striped bass. We tried to figure out how long we have been fishing together and came up with somewhere between 15-20 years!
At first light – flat calm seas. What a change from yesterday’s chop. And the bay stayed flat all morning. Just a breath of East wind. Lots of fish back in the bay today on topwater chasing bait under birds. The flats were busy. No big schools of fish and no big fish inside today. But what was there was just great fun on the fly rod and light tackle gear.
The top fly pattern continues to be my Baymen Universal. For light tackle, we landed fish on rubber crank baits and Baymen Jigs. Most of the fish were on topwater but we did use the cast and count method in many places to get our tackle sub-surface.
Very little bait inside the bay at the moment. No seals sighted today. Total catch and release was 25 striped bass. A lovely morning on the bay.
