22 Fish on Fly & LT
On board today, I had repeat client, Mr. Dick Bowman, USMC. Dick has been fishing with me for eight years and is already on the calendar again for next season!
A very thick, dense fog on the bay today at first light. We did not see land for the first few hours of our trip. But we found the fish. They were not where we expected, but they were where we found them. The first few drifts we did not get a bump. Then we had a hit and spit on LT. Next stop – nothing. So, we picked our way across the bay by GPS in a zero visibility fog and finally found a decent bunch of bass. Those fish were holding on structure in Duxbury waters and hit our topwater Spooks, Rapalas and Daddy Macs.
Next up we hit the rips and rocks on the outgoing tide and found some more fish. Dick landed several bass on the fly rod and also on the light tackle rubber crankbaits. At one point, we had a mini blitz near the boat that lasted about a full minute. The fog began to burn off in parts of the bay and we decided to run to Plymouth water for a look around.
We pulled into my next spot in about five fow and we found some fish on structure. Dick landed a nice bass on the fly rod and also many more fish on LT topwater and rubber crankbaits.
Our total catch and release today was 22 striped bass on fly and LT. Our best bass was on the fly that hit my Baymen Universal fly pattern.
