On board today, I had repeat client, Jim Costra, Son-in-law Mike, and grandkids Alex and Jack for light tackle striped bass. Jim & Co. have been fishing with me for at least ten years.

At first light, a gentle East wind and sunny skies. An hour later the bay was socked in with a thick, dense fog that make going slow. But the good thing is, it made us work pieces of water very thoroughly instead of zipping from spot to spot. And it paid off. We found fish in every location today. Browns had a few, Bug Light had a few, Saquish hard a few, Clarks Island had some fish, as well as many more of my spots in Duxbury and Plymouth. Due to the thick fog, we did not fish Kingston bay. There were many boats on the bay in the fog, so we stayed pretty close to my shoreline structure spots and a few sand bars most boats won’t go over due to very shallow waters of a few feet.

The first half of the charter, we fished rubber crank baits and everyone hooked up in deeper waters and drop-offs. For the second half of the trip, waters were still flat calm so we fished all topwater tackle over the structure. That worked great! we were into non-stop topwater action for the rest of the morning! It was so much fun with many double and triple hook-ups. Nothing is more exciting that watching a striped bass chase down your topwater tackle and slam it on the surface in an explosion of water!

We fished quite a bit of water today covering several miles. The fog did give us some breaks and made moving around easier. No keepers today, all big, fat schoolies to 26″ inches. So much fun on light tackle gear! Total catch and release today: 50 striped bass and 1 giant shad.
