20 Fish, 2 Keepahs
On board this morning I had regular client, Billy Tedeschi, for LT tackle and live bait striped bass fishing.
It was flat calm all morning on the bay and picture perfect on a rising tide. At first light, we met up with Jim Barr, who reported lots of mack off Gurnet. We made the run out and found tinkers and atlantics at 70 feet. After catching all we needed, we zipped back inside and found a big push of fish coming into the bay on the rising tide.
For the first couple of hours, we could not leave a mack in the water for more than 30 seconds to a minute tops, without getting a run! The fish were very aggressive and hungry in the 58 degree water and they slammed our livies! After we ran out of live macks, we fished chunks and still picked up several more fish.
The best bass of the morning was a big-bellied striper topping twenty pounds. We found that one bass by watching a lone gull flying high overhead and tipping its wings but never dropping down. That bird was watching this big bass and we set a drift right over him. WHAM! Fish on! It took all of 30 seconds for him to hit the live mack as soon as it was in the water.
Total catch for the morning was 20+ fish and two keepers to twenty pounds. Not bad for late July on our bay.
