19 fish, 1 keeper
On board today, I had new charter, Ed Morris of ID.
At first light SW chop covered the bay. It ranged 7 knots to 20 knots and it was slow, rough going the first part of the morning.
Yesterday’s fish and bait were long gone and the bay was very, very quiet. But we kept at it and covered a lot of water. We finally found a ball of bait and bass on top-water and subsurface in about 8 fow. They were feeding on a tiny minnow, but took The Baymen Jig and Gagg’s Grabber if we kept at it. Ed landed a chunky keeper of 30″ inches and 11 pounds. The rest of the fish were all shorts, but very fat and healthy. In three years, I think we are going to see a ton of small to medium size keepers in our bay. Most keepers this season have been small, 28″-32″ with a few fish topping our at 40 inches. But not many!
We ended the morning with 19 fish caught and released, and one 30″ inch keeper that slammed a topwter Gagg’s popper. Half of our fish today slammed Capt. Dave’s Baymen Jig the other half were topwater. Not a bad morning in wicked SW chop. We had to pull out all the stops today to find fish. Very few fish and almost no bait in the bay this am. What a change from yesterday.
