19 Fish, 1 Keepah
Yesterday’s fish were all gone today, and a handful of new fish were in the bay. On board this morning, I had repeat clients Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson and Matt Daily for Light Tackle striped bass.
At first light, a stunning sunrise and near calm seas…
Fishing was tough the first hour as we searched for yesterday’s fish, but they just were not there. Already pushed out and headed south to the Chesapeake in the fall run.
So, we had to reinvent today, and start fishing some new areas, looking for new fish. And we found them!
We fished a total of nine, of my fifty-four marked spots, inside the bay. We never went past Bug Light.
Winds whipped up out of the North to about 18 knots and it got choppy mid morning, then they settled back down again to maybe 12 knots. Bearable, but choppy and bumpy.
The fun part about today, was fishing new spots and getting up in a foot or two of water and finding fish. There is just something exciting about skinny water sight fishing over the flats!
Kevin fought and landed a fine thirty-six inch striped bass on a topwater lure, while the boat was bottomed out on a mud flat. Later, Gary hooked into and landed a crazy running bluefish in two feet of water. What a fight on LT!
Total catch for the morning was 19 fish, including one keeper striper and a blue. A fine morning with three great anglers. (Did I mention they brought ham and cheese sandwiches, roast beef, fried chicken, banana bread, pastries, peanut butter cookies, four kinds of candy bars, spring water, ice tea…)!!! Thanks for keeping the Captain fat and happy, guys! LOL…

PS – Many thanks to the oysterman that helped me push my boat off the trailer this morning around 5:30am at the ramp. Much appreciated.
