59 Fish
On board today, I had repeat clients Dwight Pierce, Jay Cohen, and Tim Porelle for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, it was near calm with a light south wind. A nice change from yesterday’s N/NE at 20 knots! We found a couple of fish working bait at Saquish Head and picked up our first three fish of the morning.
Moving on to the Kingston Rip on the last 30 minutes of dropping tide and nobody home. Not even a bump!
Next up we fished Cow Yard and got into some decent fishing there for about an hour. Then those fish moved out on the dead low -1.4 tide.
We decided to fish the flats to check on a spot we found some big fish in a week or two back. We covered the entire area and no fish were found.
Next, Kingston Channel. Zip. Then, Splitting Knife. Zip. Then Whites flat where we found fish busting in 9″ inches to two feet of water! Bottomed the boat out several times and fished while the rising tide pushed us along. WE caught a bunch.
From there, we fished Long Beach with no hits. Then clarks Island, back to Cow Yard, and called it a day.
Total catch today: 59 striped bass to 26″ inches. Most of the fish were in the coookie cutter 23″ inch size. We saw a few fish that looked to be in the 30″ inch range, but keepers were nearly non-existent. MV & Block are where the keepers are this season in great number!
Back at it in search of the fall run. Stay posted:
