37 Fish, 1 Keepah
On board today, I had one of my regulars, Billy Tedeschi, for light tackle striped bass. Beautiful false dawn while waiting for the sunrise and dead-calm seas with a high tide dropping.
At first light, fishing was quite slow. We started checking all my spots, looking for topwater and then fishing structure. Almost not fish. Then at half-tide dropping, the bite started to turn on and we started seeing topwater action in very small pods up on the flats. We hooked into a fat, small keeper on a rubber crank over struture (rocks and weeds) in about three feet of water max.
When the tide bottomed out, the bite really turned on and we found bass chasing bait in 9″ inches to 25″ inches of water. Very, very few fish in anything deeper than a few feet. They were all up on the flats at low tide. We ended the morning with 37 bass boated and released, plus one keeper that went home with the client. A lovely, fall morning with air temps in the 40’s when we left the dock!
