18 Fish
On board today I had repeat Adam Laware & crew for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, we had a bunch of small fish working bait on topwater and sub-surface. Lots and lots little bass, which is good to see. Those fish will be our future keepers in a few more years.
After working the smaller fish, we decided to gamble and run to the Power Plant for some giant blues. Skunked! We worked the area pretty hard with noisy topwater without drawing a hit. We also cruised with sonar looking for some fish on the bottom but it was a ghost town.
Back inside the bay, we worked a bunch of my spots that usually hold fish in the Dog Days of August and they were all void of fish. A few schools of bait here and there, and even a small pod of pogy, but no bass or blues anywhere. Water temps are 73 at dock (!) and high 60’s/70’s everywhere else. Air temps today are about 90. Sunny, hot and beautiful out there.
We ended the morning with 18 fish caught and released, all on rubber cranks. On the way in, we passed a group of boats working the bottoms of the channels for fluke. That is a good bet if you are heading out onto the bay over the weekend.
Stay posted: Fall Run starts around August 25th!
