8 Fish
On board today, I had new client, Stephen Schoonover and son, Daniel, for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, a SW chop but very managable. We found a pod or two of very skiddish bass in shallow waters being pursued by several other boats and a few yaks. We fished them for a short time and then started working the bay. Without exception, all my typical spots were void of bass. Only one spot held bait, but no fish on them.
Later in the morning, we did find one quick flare-up of birds, bait and bass. Then towards the end of our trip with gusty SW winds, we found a small school of very small bass at the edge of a flat where it dropped off into a channel, hugging the bottom. We fished rubber crank baits and Sunami Smokey Joe poppers and finished out the morning with 8 striped bass, all micros.
The Dog Days of August continue and we are hoping for some big, fresh fish to come into the bay soon.
