151 Fish on LT
On board today, I had regulars, Chris & Molly DeVillers and their nephew, Matt, for light tackle striped bass.
We got into a half-mile of striped bass today in the pouring rain, fog, and flat calm seas. All the fish were holding the bottom and moving out of the bay on the dropping tide.
We fished light tackle rubber crank baits in a variety of sizes and they all worked. They were weighted and we had to count down to as much as 25 seconds before we got into fish. Other times we found fish in 2-4 fow as we drifted up onto the flats. There were a handful of birds working on the dropping tide but none on the incoming tide. We had to find the fish by sonar.
It rained non-stop all morning and we got a good soaking. But the fish were stacked up like cordwood on the bottom. All schooled bass to about 26 inches. We marked hundreds of fish moving out of the bay. There were also a few seals around no doubt feeding on the bass. What a great morning chasing these fish with light tackle.
Total catch and release today was a whopping 151 fish! Back at it. STAY POSTED
