69 Fish on LT
Light winds and low incoming tide today at first light with regulars, Gary Condon, Greg Powers, and Matt Daily for light tackle striped bass.
We found a few schools of topwater fish and opted to fish a small rip line that produced bass for us on every drift. The fish slammed rubber crank baits and also Baymen Jigs bounced off the bottom. When the tide went full slack, the bite shut off for about twenty minutes, which is typical behavior for striped bass.
As the tide began to pour into the bay, we found lots of small fish in the guzzles around the flats in Plymouth. We had great success on super spooks in chartreuse and also bone color. After fishing the guzzles, we ran back into Kingston and fished the main channels and marked a lot of fish on the bottom! Mostly small fish to 26″ inches. I did see about a half-dozen of very big fish on sonar throughout the morning, right on the bottom in deeper waters.
The winds freshened for a while out of the N and NE and we decided to run up behind Clark’s Island and have a look around. We picked up a couple fish but it was pretty quiet up there. Back into Plymouth and Kingston we found some topwater fish and picked up a few more in the channel. Then we ran up into Kingston and fished spooks over structure and picked up some more fish. No keepers but great fun on light tackle gear and topwater lures!
Gary, as many of you have read from past trips over the last 15 years or so, always brings a cooler packed with a full lunch menu and we always take a break from fishing and enjoy a great brunch! Today was no exception and had subs, cookies, chips, juice, candy and a few other goodies. Of course we always enjoy hot coffee and pastries as well at the dock at first light as we head out! Need less to say, I could barely move after eating well with the crew today LOL…
After brunch we fished a few more structure spots in Duxbury and picked up a bunch more of small fish right on the bottom to round out the morning. Total catch and release today was 69 striped bass to about 26″ inches. So much fun on light tackle!
Watching the weather for tomorrow. Looks like a rainy week and some East winds in the mix…
Back at it. STAY POSTED:
