105 Fish, 1 Keeper
On board today, I had the “A” Team, aka “Team 201”, Frank Harrington, Ken Hartshorn, and Frank’s kids, Brian and Greg, for light tackle striped bass. Last year, this group set a new BAYMEN boat record for landing and releasing 201 striped bass.
Today, at first light, we had heavy dense fog, SE wind and spitting rain. No topwater to speak of. Almost every fish we caught today was hugging the bottom in 8-24 feet of water. Lots and lots of micro bass in the bay and some decent schoolies in a few of our spots. One of our drifts produced a fat 30″ inch keeper that slammed a topwater Chug Bug in Red/White. It inhaled the entire plug and the strike was awesome! That dinner fish went home with the anglers.
Mid-morning, the fog cleared and overacas skies prevailed. The SE wind layed down flat and it was like a mill pond out there. Just beautiful. We moved around a lot all morning, never spending more than 30 minutes in any one structure spot. We found fish at every stop, but some spots had more fish than others.
Top tackle today were chug bugs in red/white, Baymen Jigs in 1 oz, and rubber crank baits in bunker colors. Total fish caught and released today was a whopping one-hundred-five (105) striped bass of all sizes from micros up to 30″ inches, for four rods. A great morning on the bay for the “A” Team.
Back at it. Stay posted:
