102 Fish
On board today, I had Gary Condon of Affordable Closet Systems, Matt, and Greg for LT striped bass. Been fishing with this crew for years and this year they were one short. The late Kevin Erickson was the fourth member who was fondly remembered today with memories of great times fishing with us on the bay.
At first light, it was overcast and a light north wind. Not a bird in the sky for the most part. All the bass today were on struture, down deep, hugging the bottom. Once in a while a fish would break topwater, but that was the exception. The dropping tide was strong and drifts were quick. We used Baymen Jigs and rubbber crankbaits to get down to the fish. We also used hard-bodied swimmers with good success. Topwater poppers got a few strikes and hookups but the sinking tackle got most of the fish.
All the fish today were very small micro bass 6″-14″ inches with a few bigger fish to 27 3/4″ inches mixed in. Gary had one decent fish on for the morning that got under the boat and threw the hook. Heart breaker! We ended the morning with 102 striped bass caught and released. A great morning of fishing! And of course, Gary & Co. were concerned that Capt. Dave was getting a little too skinny and fattened him up with roast beef subs, hand-dipped choclates, blueberry muffins, hot coffee, girl scout cookies… I did not dissapoint! LOL…
Back at it and hoping the giant fish south of us eventually find their way into our bay. We need the bait to come inside to make that happen.
