Ten Fish
On board today I had repeat clients, Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson and Matt Daley for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, winds were N/NE and blowing a solid 15-20. But we saw a school of fish working under birds and went for it. We got into them for about two minutes and they broke up and we never saw them again.
Next, we marked a 50 yard long school of fish that gave us one drift and they do broke up and were gone. We made several more drifts in the area with no luck.
From there we ran to Plymouth and marked about one-hundred yards of fish in 24 feet of water! Things were looking up. We boated a fish, reset the drift and those fish vanished like the rest! We set drift after drift and never found them again…
So, with the NE blow, there was no bait in the bay. With no bait, the bass that did come in did not stay and went right back out again. With no bass to push the bait to the surface, there were no birds. “Wind from the East, fishing the least.”
But we kept at it all morning, picking off a fish here and there and tallied ten fish total caught and released. It is always a fun morning with Gary & Co. and today was no exception. We broke for lunch and stuffed ourselves with roast beef sandwiches, chips, and candy bars! Just for today, I went off my diet! LOL…
Now we watch and wait for the winds to turn W or S and the bay should light up again with tons of fish! Stay Posted:
