Couple Bass, Big Blues!
On board today, I had repeat client, Mark Kennedy and his three children, Mark, Carly, and Johnny for light tackle striped bass and blues.
It was a perfect summer morning on bay. Sunny, flat-calm and just plain gorgeous out there. We left the dock and found stripers just outside the harbor. But the tide was low incoming and these fish were in nine inches of water chasing bait! We tried to get to then but it was just too shallow. Later, we finally to go where they were busting, but the blitz was over. Johnny, however, landed one striper, our first of the morning. We worked a few more spots to no avail and I decided we had to get these kids on some fish. Off to the Power Plant for blues!
We arrived at the power plant and teased up some huge blues on topwater poppers. Big choppers that would chase our lures and slam them on the surface. It was very exciting! Everyone landed a big fish or two and Mark landed a real whopper: 14 pounds, 36″ inches! That is crazy on light tackle. After everyone was tired out, we ran back into the bay to search for more stripers. We worked over a half-dozen of my spots and Mark landed a fat schoolie on a Super Spook walking the dog. Other than that, there were very few stripers inside the bay today.
A great summer morning with great fishermen and their Dad!
