Autumn Update
Greetings from Capt. Dave & Baymen Land! Here’s the latest news…
INJURY UPDATE – As you have probably heard, I slipped on the town pier dock boat ramp in September and dislocated my shoulder. I had to cut my charter season short by about three weeks. Fortunately, I have awesome clients that have been fishing with me for years and they let me roll your fall charters into the 2017 season. Thank you so much!
My shoulder is about 50% from where it was a month ago. I can almost get my arm out at a 90 degree angle (with pain!) LOL… I can’t cast a fly rod or light tackle rod yet, but I will get back there. Missing the fall run so much for both stripers, blues, and a hopeful blufin tuna. Also the fall fw largemouth and trout season is in full swing this week.
But the time off is doing me good. I took a trip up up north to hunt p’atridge and woodcock. BAD IDEA! I could not raise my arm to shoot a gun and had a frustrating week. I re-injured my shoulder again trying to push it too much, and that scream topped all others since I first slipped at the boat ramp! So, I did what any yankee would do. I came back home, doubled up on my PT, and went back two weeks later and shot some p’atridge and cooked them with green peppers, cheese and bacon over stuffing. Best meal I’ve ever had!
STRIPER UPDATE – Our bay has been lit with some very big fish and lots of schoolies. Early morning bites. My friend, Spook, landed a whopper 45″ inch striper in only a few feet of water – from his kyak – this past Saturday in frigid temps. It was witnessed by a gentleman on the shore walking his dog and throwing a tennis ball for the dog to fetch up. The dog walker said something AMAZING: Last week he threw a tennis ball out into the water for his dog to retrieve. There was a MASSIVE boil and something sucked in the tennis ball and the ball was never seen again!!! Ii will let you decide and wonder while laying in bed at night, what it was that took down that tennis ball. In my mind, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt what it was…
Well, here’s to wishing you a wonderful season and second half of October. A lovely, warm-weather week is on tap and it is a great time to be alive!
Tight Lines & Good Hunting.
Your friend,
Capt. Dave
