30 Bass/Shad on Fly & LT
Quick trip this am with my son, Luke, ranked #1 in the state and on his way to South Kent School in the fall.
We fished the incoming tide. Lots of striped bass coming into the bay. Fish up to 30″ inches chasing our flies and LT. We landed 29 striped bass and 1 Atlantic Shad. Top fly was my Baymen Universal, and also took a bass on a chartreuse deceiver (not my tie). For LT, pearl rubber crank baits are still the king of LT for us, fished with the cast and count and Baymen bounce techniques. Also the death crawl but they tend to suck it down deep, so not a good technique for catch & release.
Had a 30″ chase down my fly and then a 26″ inch took it! That 30″ incher then swam three miles across the bay and found Tommy L.’s chunk mackerel. The tin boat always gets the dinner fish!
It was a lovely, flat calm morning on the bay today after yesterday’s winds. Lots of bait inside and outside the bay. Big fish are starting to show in the mix, most of them taken offshore on livies or south of us on topwater. Let’s hope those big fish decide to set up their summer vacation inside the bay!
I have tomorrow open for a fly fishing trip, 5+ hours leaving at sunrise. If you are interested, shoot me an E-Mail….
Tight Lines & Happy Independence Day. Hope you get into some great fishing!
