75 Fish
Epic fall run of fish this morning on a flat-calm bay and light NW wind. Tide was dropping and we fished into low and then the first couple hours of incoming.
On board today, I had regular client, Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson, Matt Daily, and Greg for light tackle striped bass and blues.
At first light we found a school of fish up on the flats in two feet of water. We landed four schoolies to 27″ inches and move on. The next hour was dead. No fish in any of the spots that have held fish the past few days. On a lark, we decided to try a little channel that opens up into a huge area of flats and cuts. Heading in, we could see fish breaking in only a few feet of water. Tons of birds as well. I have tried this spot before and got stuck up in there on the low dropping tide. So, I knew our limitations today and got as close as I could and dropped anchor in 1.9 feet of water!
For the next two hours it was NON-STOP action on schooled striped bass! They slammed our topwater poppers, Chug-Bugs, and Spooks until the hooks were bent all out of shape. When we pulled in, we had landed four fish total. When we pulled out, we had landed a total of FIFTY schoolies to 27″ inches.
Next stop, we ran to Gurnet to catch the incoming tide. We also worked Crescent beach area. We landed only a single fish. TONS of big seals all over the place so we moved on.
We stopped at a little rip line that has held a few fish the past week and they were there again today. We boated a couple, chased them up onto the flats, and then they were gone. Looking in the distance, I spotted birds working about a mile away. We worked around the sand bars and pulled into tons of striped bass to 29 3/4″ inches in two feet of water! For the next hour we pounded the fish and they destroyed our topwater lures with gusto, knocking them out of the water and chasing them down. It was very exciting fishing action!
Total catch and release today was a whopping seventy-five (75) striped bass on light tackle. An epic fall run of fish inside the bay.
Back at it. We are booked through October 5th. STAY POSTED:
