73 fish, 3 keepers
On board today, I had repeat clients Gary Condon (Affordable Closet Systems), Kevin Erickson (Erickson Enterprises), Matt “Wompum” Daly, and Greg Powers for light tackle striped bass and blues.
At first light, we found a handful of fish and one keeper holding in shallow water along the flats. Depths at times were less than two feet! The fish were holding in tiny little guzzles and slammed our topwater tackle.
Next up, we hit Saquish Head on the last hour of dropping and found several fish holding in the little rips. We landed several more.
From that point , we ran to Plymouth with big expectations. We hit several of my prime spots and only had one fish blow up on the topwater tackle. Everything looked perfect but they just were not there…
Then we started to work some more of my spots in the channels along the flats. Water temps were very high, topping out at 70+ degrees! Air temps were also 90’s and the sun was bright and hot. Didn’t matter! Fish poured into the bay on the incoming tide! We slammed fish non-stop for the rest of the morning just about everywhere we went. Not big schools, but small pods were busting like it was fall. We had to move around a lot to stay with them, but man was that ever fun!
When we started out this morning, Gary said, “50 fish today!” I told him he was dreaming this time of year in the heat and hot water temps we would be lucky to get a dozen fish. The rest is history! We never even got to the power plant because the bass fishing never let up.
We ended the morning with a whopping 73 fish and 3 keepers, all taken on topwater super spooks walkng the dog. A gorgeous day on the bay!
