47 Fish on Light Tackle
On board today, Gary Condon & Greg Powers for light tackle striped bass fishing.
At first light, overcast, light South wind, and two hours before high tide. A lovely morning. Water temps 74 at the dock and 67-72 out in the bay.
A decent amount of fish inside, scattered about in small schools. Some birds working the peanut bunker the bass were pushing to the surface. We landed a few fish on 4″ and 3″ rubber crank baits and then switched over to topwater plugs and it was lights out!
Fishing action was pretty much non-stop for the first three hours. The fish were active, schooled up, and slammed out topwater tackle. We had many double hook-ups throughout the morning.
The bay stayed almost flat and there was not much seaweed today. We worked the schools of fish until all was quiet and then we fished structure and pulled a few more fish off of weed beds and cuts.
Total catch and release today was 47 fish, including 1 bluefish. We are starting to see more and more blues mixed in with the bass. It was another perfect summer day on the bay!
Back at it. Stay posted. Fall run is just about to start…
