42 Fish
On board today, I had regular client Brian Ware for light tackle striped bass. Brian has been fishing with me for many years, but today was the first time his nephew, Nick, 10 years old, joined in the fun!
A beautiful fireball sunrise greeted us as we headed out on the bay. We found fish right away, but opted to keep traveling in the hopes of finding a big school of striped bass. We did! We pulled into a pre-fall blitz of birds, bait and fish. We worked the school of bass and set many drifts and caught fish on every drift. A good mix of year class fish from two year olds to six year old fish. They hammered our single hook light tackle, but it took some good technique to get consistent hook-ups. The school eventually broke up and we moved.
We worked many of my spots around the bay and they were all nearly void of bass. We ended the morning in a special spot that held good numbers of small bass, but a lot of fun on light tackle. Total catch and release 42 fish. A great morning Nick will remember for many years ahead.
