41 Fish On the Fly
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
On board today, repeat client, Greg Sanchez, and his friend, Jim for Fly or Die striped bass. Greg and I met about twenty years ago when I owned Baymen Outfitters fly shop and he fished with our Thursday night club. Time sure flies…
At first light – COLD temps. We were dressed for winter and I am glad we were. Winds were light and near calm out of the NW. Water temps were warmer than the air at 54 degrees on a low rising tide.
We found fish right off coming into the bay with the new tide. Lots of striped bass on topwater and a few surprise blues! Greg and Jim began to hook up right away and had some great Spring Blitz fishing on the fly that lasted all morning long!
Top fly pattern today was an olive and white half & half with a white saddle hackle that made all the difference. We did fish a few other patterns and caught a few fish, but the half & half was today’s ticket to non-stop hook-ups and many doubles throughout the morning. Leaders were straight 20lb mono. Lines were intermediates on 9wt and 10 wt rods.
Total catch and release today was a whopping 41 striped bass on the fly. A classic Spring Blitz morning!
