39 Fish on LT
On board today, I had my longest standing client, Tom Bullock, who has been fishing with me for twenty-six years in a row! Tom’s friends John and Steve joined us today for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, a near flat calm bay and it stayed flat all morning. We fished the outgoing tide over the rip lines and then we fished the little guzzles around the flats a low slack. When the tide turned, we began to move around the bay and fish some more of my spots.
The best fishing today was the last two hours of dropping tide. Fish were stacked up in the little rips all around the bay until the tide bottomed out. From that point on, it was a fish here and there but the big schools had left the bay, moving south in the fall migration.
Total catch and release today was 39 striped bass, including a nice keeper landed by Steve. John got bit off by a big blue and that was the only sign of blues we saw.
Yesterday, a Great White Shark couldn’t hide as it fed on a dead whale off the front beach. Police/Harbormasters shut down the beaches. I have seen a total of seven Great Whites over the years including one inside Duxbury Bay by the #5 Green Can a few days ago. I am always concerned when leaning over the side of the boat with my arms and hands in the water lipping and releasing fish. And you would not catch me dead paddle boarding, tubing or swimming the bay with GW around.
Tight Lines & Back At It as we are in the final month of the fall run in our bay.
