21 Bass, 3 Blues
On board today, I had repeat clients Gary Condon, Kevin Erickson and their friend, Greg, for light tackle striped bass and blues.
At first light, a stunning sunrise and calm seas greeted us.
We fished the last of the rip lines before low tide bottomed out. Then, we found a decent pod of bass chasing bait all over the flats in 6″ inchs to 21″ inches of water! Poppers and spooks did the trick. It was more like bone fishing in belize than striper fishing on the MA coast! Great fun and great sport. The strikes were incredible and my only regret is I did not have a cameraman along to film the action.
After the tide turned, the flats fishing ended and we headed for deeper waters. SW winds picked up pretty good and it got choppy out there! But just before it blew up, we found a small pod of ten pound blues busting bait on top-water. We estimated the shcool to be about twenty fish and only seventeen made it out of the bay! Poppers on wire leaders did the trick.
We ended a great morning with 21 striped bass caught and released and 3 big blues that went home with the anglers. A great morning on the bay! (thanks for all food, guys!).
Tight Lines,
Capt. Dave
