15 Fish – Our morning in Pictures
On board today, Lt. Col. Richard “The Machine” Comstock for Fly or Die striped bass fishing. Today was a joint venture, so I also picked up the fly rod.
Birds, peanut bunker, and striped bass at first light up on the flats. VERY spooky, VERY finicky fish. We landed a couple on Baymen Universal fly patterns and drove way (!) from a couple acres of breaking fish. It was a bold move and a good one. We checked one of my other spots and there were fish all over on the bottom. We picked up 11 more fish on Baymen Universals. Lt. Col. Comstock fished a real nice fly but the bass ignored it. They continued to slam the Baymen Universals on sinking lines.
When the tide went flat, we ran another mile or two and checked on a spot that held a ton of fish yesterday at slack. Today those fish were long gone in the migration south. But we did pick up two fish there, including one on a Jack Gartside Gurgler in White.
Total catch and release today: 15 fish on a flat-calm bay with water temps 64-67 degrees. A lovely September morning. Happy Labor Day!
Sincerely,
