13 Fish
On board today, I had repeat client, Billy Tedeschi for light tackle striped bass. At sunrise, an east wind broought heavy dense fog across the bay. It lasted for several hours and then burned off, followed by more east wind.
We fished Yo-zuri poppers, super spooks, Tsunami Smokey Joes, and my Baymen Jig all around the bay. We worked over small pieces of water and most of them did not have any fish. A few guzzles did hold a few bass and the fish that were there were migrators heading south. They were not resident fish. The fall run has started and the first tricklers are moving through. The fish are very aggressive and strong fighters. All had sea lice.
We should see more and more fish moving through the bay over the next month. Here today, gone tomorrow, only to be replaced by more fish moving south for the fall run. We ended today with 13 bass, all shorts, all very fat and healthy. I would guess we fished fifteen different pieces of water around the bay. “East Windahs” would tail slap our lures quite often. They enjoyed the chase but just weren’t hungry.
Back at it in search of some giants. My friend, Daniel Putnam, landed a 47″ cow this am. It was also a migratory bass moving south.
