114 Fish
On board today I had regulars, Gary Condon, Greg Powers and Matt Daily for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, the North winds were cranking and they never let up all morning. We had three waves come over the bow and everyone got soaked and we almost lost Matt overboard. But we did not let it slow us down!
We picked up 7 fish pretty quickly as we ran recon around the bay on the last of the dropping tide. Setting drifts was difficult and we came close to blowing up on flats several times with a 25 knot tail wind as we tried to work the edges of Brown’s Bank.
As the tide turned, it was GAME ON! as the bay came alive with tons of migrating fish. Most of our morning was spent in Kingston waters and in the Rocky Nook section of the bay. Stacked with fish, bait and birds for several hours!
Top tackle today was topwater spooks and 4″ rubber crank baits. We tripled up many times and doubles were the norm. No big fish or keepers inside today. All schooled bass up o 26″ inches. We dropped two other fish that might have touched 28″.
On our way back, we had to head directly into the North wind blowing 25 knots with solid white-caps all the way. We took a good pounding and the crew asked me to slow down. My back is killing me his evening but I got to say, it was a great day of fall fishing on the bay! What a fishery we have here in our back yard.
